Questions about PAA and Google.

What are People Also Ask (PAA)?

People Also Ask (PAA) blocks are clusters of related questions that show up in Google's organic results when a user runs a search. Each question expands to reveal an answer extracted from a web page, and new questions load dynamically as the user keeps exploring. It's a goldmine for identifying real user search intent and tuning your content accordingly.

PAA blocks appear on 65 to 80% of searches depending on the dataset and study. SEMrush reports that 90% of searches triggering an AIO answer also display PAA.
At VoltaContent we've measured an occurrence rate of 85% since the start of 2026, across all queries.

How does Google choose the PAA?

The most plausible hypothesis is that Google selects PAA through a graph of questions and intents, fed by query rewriting, query variants, semantic similarity, entities and behavioral signals like co-clicks.
But a PAA is likely retained only when Google can match it with an indexed passage that clearly answers the question: the system therefore picks not just a question, but a triplet {intent, question, candidate answer}.
Google patents, the antitrust documents around Glue/NavBoost and the leaks all give solid clues about this architecture.

How do I retrieve the most-asked questions on Google?

The best approach is to extract PAA (People Also Ask) directly from Google SERPs for your target keywords and topics. You can do it manually by analyzing the suggested-questions blocks, or automate the process with extraction tools that capture this data in batch. That's exactly what VoltaContent does, with AI-generated answer proposals on top.
